Sibelius Scorch - The web browser plug-in to view, play and print music

What is Sibelius Scorch?

As well as our own seView option, Score Exchange can display most of the music using Sibelius Scorch, the free software that lets you view, play, transpose and print scores on the Internet. Scorch is a free web browser plug-in from Avid. You can find out more about it at www.sibelius.com/scorch

What is a web browser plug-in?

A web browser plug-in is an additional piece of software that works in conjunction with your web browser to perform a particular function. Score Exchange optionally lets you use a plug-in called Scorch to view, transpose, play and print sheet music.

How do I get Scorch?

If you use Internet Explorer on Windows

Scorch is an ActiveX compatible plug-in. This means that the first time you view a web page containing music, you’ll be asked if you want to install Scorch if you don’t already have it - just click Yes twice, then after a few seconds fill in your details when requested and click I agree. Then the page of music notation should appear.

If you use other browsers on Windows or Mac

If you use other browsers on Windows or Mac, the first time you view a web page containing music, you should be prompted to click a link to download and then install Scorch. You can also click here to get Scorch and follow the instructions to install Scorch if you don’t already have it.

How can I tell if I have installed Scorch?

Have a look at our test score and see if you can view, play and print the music. If you have selected the 'Scorch tab' and you can see the music then Scorch is installed correctly. If not, you can select the seView tab and view the music using that option instead.

Where can I find out more about Scorch?

Go to www.sibelius.com/scorch for full details of Scorch and its capabilities.

I can't get Scorch to work, what can I do?

The simplest option is to simply use the seView option available for all the music on our site as it then doesn't require a plug-in to view the music.

If you do still wish to use Scorch please go to www.sibelius.com/A625 for a comprehensive guide which will help you achieve a successful Scorch installation. If you have followed the advice in A625 and you are still having problems please either try the Scorch FAQ pages on the Sibelius site, or contact Avid Sibelius and let them know full details of your system, browser etc and what you have tried so far.
