The Polovtsian Dances are a sequence of choral dances from Act II of Borodin’s opera Prince Igor, completed by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov after Borodin’s death. They gained independent success when Sergei Diaghilev choreographed them for his Paris troupe in 1909. This first dance achieved even greater fame as the basis for the song Strangers in Paradise from the Broadway musical Kismet.
