I wrote this very expressive work at the age of 25. It is full of youth, passion and strength. Long notes must be kept strongly; in order to avoid undesired diminuendo I have sometimes added crescendos at the end of long notes. Although the musical language reaches from Mendelssohn over Prokofiew to Kleinert or Ligeti, I think there is no confusion of divergent styles, I see no breaking apart between different parts. There is always one motif, developed in several themes; so I called the piece "Metamorphosen". The first performance was 1986 in Hamburg-Wandsbek.
