Indians came from their villages into Mexico city to play in the streets. This piece of a particularly Mexican character I wrote in 1985, when I already lived in Jerusalem, and I arranged it for such a Band. For one time I lived in the quarter of Mixcoac in Mexico City, and when such a band, formed by clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, bass drum and double bass, played for a few centavos, it was greeted as the "Sinfnica de Mixcoac", the Mixcoac Symphony Orchestra, hence the title of this piece on the score. The instrumentation varies, of course, but this is just an example to illustrate the point. Enjoy!
