I'll come back and impress you with my details later but at the moment, suffice it to say, I love writing for big band.

Sandy (Alexander) Megas is a Southern California-based composer and arranger. For the past 50 years, Megas has written for a diverse array of clients.

After graduating from Antelope Valley High School in Lancaster, CA, Megas attended Chaffey Community College under the direction of Jack Mason. During his year at Chaffey, the jazz ensemble recorded the album Mandrake.

In the fall of 1977, Megas enlisted in the US Marine Corps. Upon completing basic training at MCRD San Diego, he reported to the US Navy School of Music in Little Creek, Norfolk, VA. He quickly advanced out of the Basic Course and was retained at the school in the staff arranging office. (NavMarFltSupUSOMArrStaff)

During his five years stationed at the Navy School of Music, Megas was responsible for providing music arranging support for the school's numerous concerts and functions, arrangements and maintenance of official DoD versions of all the world national anthems for all military bands of the US Armed Forces and provided timely arrangements of current popular hits to bands fleet-wide in the Navy and Marine Corps.

Outside of his official duties, he did music preparation (copying) for the Norfolk Symphony Orchestra, wrote jingles for Norfolk Scope, and made arrangements for the US Army Training and Doctrine Command (TraDoc) recruiting campaign "Be All You Can Be." (Note: The Army needed to ask a Marine for help, just sayin'.)

After his time in Virginia, Megas finished his enlistment with tours in III MAF Okinawa and 1st Marine Division Camp Pendleton, CA.

After separation from the Marine Corps, he attended and graduated from the Grove Music Composing and Arranging Program. Megas then spent several years in Los Angeles working as a freelance copyist doing work for Orion Crawford, Robert Mitchell; TV shows Webster and The A-Team.

Blah, blah, blah…there's more coming one of these days.
