John Cook

John studied at music at Cambridge but subsequently, having qualified as an accountant, moved into finance training. Alongside this career he has kept busy as a clarinettist and saxophonist; highlights have included performing “Sternklang” by Stockhausen under the composer’s direction in Bonn, and taking part in the first UK production of Shostakovich’s musical “Cheryomushki” with Pimlico Opera. His compositions and arrangements have been mainly for wind quintet, latterly specifically for “W5” (thought to be the only wind ensemble named after the postcode in which it rehearses) in which he plays alongside his oboist wife Rose.
