Mr Colin Whyles
I'm a singer-songwriter. My main instrument is finger-style acoustic guitar although I now use Maccann duet concertina quite a lot. This also means I write tunes for the duet concertina as well.
I never know how to describe my music. It lies somewhere between folk and rock. It isn't difficult or technically challenging. I am a tunesmith - if it hasn't got a good melody it gets abandoned. People speak highly of my ballads and seem to enjoy my rags!
I like to reach in different directions, so you will find a touch of country, blues, folk, pop or rock. There is even some Klezmer for the concertina (and more). Whatever takes my fancy. I hope it takes yours.
Over 2005-6 I worked on a Novel-in-Songs. The idea for this came about from writing 'Wild Blown Hair'. That song seemed to have such imagery and mystery I felt there was a big story behind it. I began to write songs to flesh out the story. 32 songs later it is done. The whole thing runs to about 2 hours and 10 minutes, so it calls for a stout heart! I hope you find something in it to appeal. (Note: All the songs are not here as I haven't notated some of them sufficiently)
I am currently working on two song cycles with poets in Suffolk.
