This tune, RESTORATION, is an early American folk hymn and is among those collected by William Walker and published in his 1835 shape-note tunebook, "The Southern Harmony." It has several variations and is sometimes called ARISE or I WILL ARISE. I have added a repeat of the second line. Lyrics most often used with this tune are "Come, Ye Sinners, Poor and Needy" (with the chorus "I will arise") and "Mercy, O Thou Son of David" (the words used in "The Southern Harmony"). The words here are one of the prayers I have written, suitable for either congregational or private singing. I have a hard time staying focused during prayer due to illness (CFIDS) as well as plain ol’ sin, and have found that singing these prayers helps. The scripture reference is Psalm 41:4. This hymn is appropriate any time (I need to sing it continually), but is especially meaningful during Lent.
