Pupu O ’Ewa, or more popularly known as "Pearly Shells" is known around the world over as coming from Hawaii. This song was writtten well over 100 years ago for the "Kahiku O Kalani" Church if Peral City, Honolulu, Hawaii, and for our seventh King of Hawaii, King David Kalakaua. It tells about the sands at the beach at Ewa, how the corals shone like the little pearly shells in the sunlight. This song is one of th first ones that children and adults alike learn to play on the ukulele as it is short and simple and tells a story in words.
