The original idea for this medley of The Charleston and Black Bottom resulted from a ’Twenties Evening’ organised in aid of Multiple Sclerosis by a retired local piano teacher and good friend, whose husband unfortunately suffers from the illness.
Initially there was a copyright issue with the medley, which was complicated by the fact that two US companies originally shared joint ownership of the former tune, and a different company the latter.
However, with the eventual assistance of Richard Paine, Rights/Media Music Director of Faber Music Ltd, who now look after the joint interests of the former US companies, I have been given full permission for the medley, in all the current instrumentations, and for any subsequent ones using the same musical ’template’.
This can be confirmed from the full copyright line on the title page of each arrangement, a condensed version of which also appears on every respective instrumental part.
While I have made a number of different versions, I haven’t had one for Woodwind Trio - as with a lot of other trios, the top part can be played either on the Flute or on the Oboe, here because of the essentially similar range.
Sometimes people will buy the full set of parts, but not necessarily the full score as well - or occasionally vice versa. Where the parts alone have been purchased, reference should be made to the full copyright line, as it appears on the score, and which will always be available for inspection online.
If there is still a combination of instruments that I haven’t covered. do please contact me, as I may be able to come up with a ’bespoke’ arrangement!
Score Exchange has two methods to display previews of music: seView which uses regular html and javascipt and the Scorch plug-in from Avid which needs to be downloaded and installed onto your computer. Both have advantages and disadvantages:
You do not need to install any additional software to use seView.
Scorch is a free plug-in from Avid for displaying and printing music. It can also play the music that you're seeing. Scorch generally works well if you're using a windows computer, but is currently not compatible with mobile devices and some web browsers on Mac computers.
If your web browser does not install Scorch automatically, you can click here to download and install scorch manually.
