A. Moritz“. Veröffentlicht wurde sie – vermutlich vor 1814 – bei Breitkopf & Härtel in Leipzig mit der Druckplattennummer 3143. Quelle: Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin, Signatur: DMS 0.5562.
Wer war C. T. Moritz? Wir kennen nicht einmal sicher seine (oder ihre?) Vornamen… Carl Theodor, Conrad Traugott, Cæcilie Tesla oder…? Auf allen bei Breitkopf & Härtel oder bei Peters veröffentlichten Moritz’schen Kompositionen finden sich immer nur die Initialen „C. T.“ Aufgrund eines Eintrags im „Brockhaus-Conversations-Lexikon“ von 1822 und mehrerer Nachweise in Berliner Adressbüchern von 1818 bis 1850 dürfen wir vermuten, dass die Vornamen „Carl Theodor“ lauteten, dass Moritz bis 1834 in Berlin gelebt hat und hauptberuflich „Geheimer Finanz-Rath“ war, siehe Wikipedia „C. T. Moritz“. Vier Flötensonaten erschienen im Druck, nämlich op. 2 und op. 4, veröffentlicht als „Sonate Pour le Pianoforte avec Accompagnement de Flûte ou Violon“ bei Breitkopf & Härtel, Leipzig, sowie die Sonaten op. 8 und op. 9, beide mit dem Titel "Grande Sonate Concertante pour le Pianoforte et la Flûte", veröffentlicht bei Peters, Leipzig. Außerdem erschien bei Breitkopf & Härtel ein Trio, Moritz’ op. 3: „Sonate Pour le Pianoforte avec Accompagnement de Flûte ou Violon et Violoncelle“.
English version: The here newly issued sonata op 2 is titled: "Sonate pour le Pianoforte avec Accompagnement de Flûte ou Violon composé et dediée à son Frère W. A. Moritz". It was published most probably before 1814 by Breitkopf & Härtel in Leipzig with the pressure plate number 3143. Source: Berlin State Library, DMS 0.5562.
Who was C. T. Moritz? We do not even know his (or her?) first names … Carl Theodor, Conrad Traugott , Cæcilie Tesla or …? On all by Breitkopf & Härtel or Peters published compositions of Moritz we always find just the initials "C. T.". Due to "Brockhaus-Conversations-Lexikon" (1822) and directories of the city of Berlin (1818 to 1850) we may guess his first names were "Carl Theodor", that he lived until 1834 and that he was a "Geheimer Finanz-Rath" from profession. Four flute sonatas (op. 2 , 4, 8 and 9) and a trio (op. 3) got to be published. Overviews (all published in the beginning of the 19th century) about printed music repeatedly mention songs of C. T. Moritz.
