This was originally titled A Simple Andante, and written for guitar. It is dedicated to guitarist, Alison Smith, who premiered the work at her recital in Plymouth in April, 2002. It does need, however, an excellent guitar technique, and as such cannot be described as ’simple’. On hearing her perform it so successfully, I feel that our idea to rename it Autumn Embers very much captured the nostalgic sentiments expressed.
I have been asked, on occasions, to arrange it for piano, and the result is, I hope, certainly not as difficult as the original, and might just provide a short easy-listening piano piece, which isn’t too taxing.
This has just been recorded on CD by Clive Jenkins (see photo) - Clive is a local composer and pianist, and regularly joins me as my piano duet partner. The CD features 20 Keyboard Pieces by West Country Composers. Click [[http://www.sibeliusmusic.com/html/sibeliusmusic/cached_stores/10568_0.html|here]] for further details.
