This slow, sweeping piece for piano and clarinet was written by me in 2014 after I had seen a documentary about the Taiga forest. It is the most northerly forest in the world, and is just this vast expanse of snow-covered trees and silence. ’One could live an entire lifespan here, and barely come into contact with any other life forms.’ I wanted to write something that could capture that sense of ice-cold stillness. I wrote this. Simply called, ’Taiga’.
