"Un Canadien Errant" is a folk song from Canada concerning a young man who had been banished from Canada after his involvement in the Rebellion of 1837. This arrangement for 3 flutes and 3 clarinets is in three sections, the first sets the mood of the person who cannot return home to his family and friends, the second contrasting section is faster and shows a frustration because he cannot get back home. The third section is slower again, with the melody in a lower register, ending with a recall of the opening melodic material and a hint at "O Canada", as a parting thought.
