When this hymn tune appeared in the Scottish Psalter of 1635 it was named "Newtoun Tune". In Playford's 1671 Psalmes it was called "London New". Stanford used the tune as the basis for his anthem "Pray that Jerusalem may have peace and felicity". Britten closed his "Saint Nicolas" with this tune, set to the words "God moves in a mysterious way".
