For this movement particular knowledge of various historical 'swan' themes and of renaissance and early baroque interpretation are helpful. The swan, with all it's contexts appears here… in the theme yet in the baroque original vocal form, with a few extensions only; in the 1st variation only the bass recorder reminds of the madrigal, while the strings are building up sort of distance; the 2nd variation is experimenting and only few tears of the Arcadelts original remain flagrantly visible. Enjoy! A complete set of parts attached to movement 1, Fantasia Commissioned by Sabine Federspieler, premiered on June 26th, 2006 in Linz, Austria by Sabine & Claudia Federspieler (voc/rec & Vl1), Astrid Resch (Vl2), Johannes Sonnberger (Vla) & Malva Hatibi (Vc) MP3 from the premiere.
