This suite was written to commemorate the 350th anniversary of the sailing of the 'Mayflower' from Plymouth, Devon, for 'Mayflower Year - 1620 - 1970'. It is written for Treble Recorder, though a flute would be an alternative instrument. Each of the five movements is programmatic, depicting the perilous journey across the Atlantic. A brief description heads each movement, and there is some cyclic unity achieved by combining themes in the various movements. Excerpts have been broadcast on BBC Radio Devon at some time.
