It is a sentimental ballad, and could have a light drum accompaniment, even bass and rhythm guitars, although it would sound equally well with a simple piano, or in this case, electronic piano backing.
This is the original version, without the altered ending, and which is truer to the original conception, than the 1974 version, which was more ’commercial’, with the semitone transposition for the last verse, and ending in the major key.
The attached photo is my dear Mum and I, and was taken sadly only a month before she passed away on Easter Sunday, 2004.
