From Handel's Water Music Suite No. 1 in F Major, this is the the Air in D Minor. In the original, it is preceded by No. 3a (Allegro deciso) which is then reprised in a da capo immediately following the Air. If performing this music without No. 3a (Allegro deciso), omit the final two bars which are used to transition once again into No. 3a (Allegro deciso), or may be used to transition into No. 11, Hornpipe. The music of the Air in D Minor is quiet and contemplative, and is suitable as music for prayers, meditations, and seating at weddings and funerals, as well as for use in concert.
