The arrangement of this Gregorian chant by Durufle is unsurpassably beautiful. The present arrangement is simpler, uses more of the original words (often antiphonally with my English translation) and has, at times, a more bravura organ accompaniment. Intended here as an anthem for use during Communion, the chant is actually, and originally, attached to the foot-washing on Maundy Thursday, though later use associates it with Communion.
