"Gymnopedie No1" is the first of Eric Satie's rather meloncholy sounding pieces which were written circa 1888. The titles of these pieces are derived from an ancient Spartan festival dance. They are all somewhat modal in sound, and are rather etheral, atmospheric pieces, precursors to modern ambient music. Not too difficult to perform, and arranged primarily to develop tonal qualities and phrasing.
