It would appear that this is intended as a fun song to 'Funicular Railways'.� The song was written by journalist Peppino urco and set to music by Luigi Denza in 1880.� They drew their inspiration from the inauguration of the first funicular on Mt Vesuvius.� It was a popular hit song performed by Mario Lanza in the 1950's.

The Cor Anglais parts are en lieu the 2nd Oboe, and the 1st Bassoon, they may also be played along with the Double Reed Quartet to enlargen the ensemble.

This arrangement has been tried and performed by the North Somerset Double Reed Ensemble, under the Directorship of Rob Heathcote.� �

Which method of viewing music should I use?
