They draw on pre-Christian Celtic mythology, international folktale motifs, and early medieval historic traditions. They were first translated into English by Lady Charlotte Guest in the mid 19th century.
The 5th movement of my 'Mabinogion Suite' is "Battle of the Giants. It is taken from the story of "Branwen Daughter of Llyr", which relates a story of the war between Wales and Ireland, in the distant past, I hasten to add.
