I know why Dance of the Fisherman and the Sea Nymph. I don’t know why G minor… that is just how it came to me! This duet for quite advanced flute players of equal ability should be played expressively and mysteriously. It starts with the obvious folky feel, then it moves progressively further into the watery depths along with the fisherman…. I could have given it an accompaniment. I didn’t because I wanted the feel of a deserted shoreline a little like in the Seventh Seal. Somehow a piano didn’t fit the scenario and anyway it should be complete in itself!
