Burns Revisited Volume 28

Burns Revisited is a project to rewrite the music to all of Robert Burns songs and set much of his verse to music that has never had music before.

Burns is one of the greatest lyricists of all time but he wasn’t a composer. He was a song collector and for this we have to be grateful for had he not notated all the old tunes he heard on his travels, they could have been lost to antiquity. Although he collected a great deal of old tunes, there obviously wasn’t enough to cater for his prodigious output of verse. This would explain why we have a situation where several of his songs share the same tune. I have set out to redress this state of affairs and when the project is finished all of his song lyrics will have a brand new tune and many will have more than one and I feel that’s the way it should be. This is phase one and so far 363 new tunes have been written. By the time the project is complete, the full total is expected to exceed 500.

Which method of viewing music should I use?

Score Exchange has two methods to display previews of music: seView which uses regular html and javascipt and the Scorch plug-in from Avid which needs to be downloaded and installed onto your computer. Both have advantages and disadvantages:

seView

seView, is the most compatible option. You should be able to view music on all modern web browsers including most mobile devices. Even if your device does not support javascript you should still be able to preview at least page one of the music.

You do not need to install any additional software to use seView.

Scorch

Scorch is a free plug-in from Avid for displaying and printing music. It can also play the music that you're seeing. As modern web browsers are updated, Scorch is no longer compatible with many browsers. Scorch has never been compatible with mobile devices and some web browsers on Mac computers.

If your web browser does not install Scorch automatically, you can click here to download and install scorch manually.
