This piece was originally commissioned by the Mill House Festival and was for a set of light hearted variations on the Swiss National Anthem (Vaterlandslied). The tune is the same as 'God Save the Queen', 'Let Freedom Ring', and is also used in Liechtenstein and Norway amongst others. The variations are in pastiche styles. It was first performed by the Clarinet section of the Kent Youth Wind Orchestra.
