DANIEL PURCELL (b. London, c. 1660 � d. 1717)

English organist and composer, brother of Henry (the younger), organist of Magdalen College Oxford from 1688 � 95 and of St. Andrew�s, Holborn from 1713-1717; returned to London in 1695 and succeeded his brother as composer of music for plays, masques and many songs, glees, etc. He was a notable musician of his time, though not as gifted as his brother.
