"Nicolette" is the first song from Maurice Ravel's "Trois Chansons",� "Three Songs", that were written for unaccompanied choir between December 1914 and February 1915, whilst waiting to be enlisted in the army.� Ravel himself wrote the texts for them.� "Nicolette" was dedicated to his friend and fellow "Apache" Tristan Klingor, whose real name was Leon Leclere,a poet.� The "Apache" were an Avant - garde group of artists, writers and musicians, who cheerfully adapted the name "Hooligans".
