1st Clarinet in Bb part from Hymn of Peace

Composer
Duration
5 minutes
Genre
Classical music

A piece initially inspired by the the centenary of a local church with a Presbyterian heritage, Hymn of Peace went on to become more of a universal plea for peace and tolerance.

It is scored for a moderately-sized orchestra and should be within the capabilities of good high school ensembles. The repeated choral lyrics are designed to make it easy for audience participation in the piece if desired. It could be a suitable addition to a Christmas concert.

The General MIDI playback via Scorch gives a very poor impression of what the piece is supposed to sound like. The best way to view and listen is to click on the LISTEN TO MP3 button above the Scorch bar. You may then page through the piece in time with the music by clicking the Next Page button on the Scorch bar. This is still a virtual performance, but sounds much closer to a live performance, except for the lack of words by the 'choir'.

Please email me if you are interested in performing the piece. I would like to obtain a live recording.

The lyrics, which are almost impossible to read on screen in the full score are reprinted here:

Come let us sing for a child of the universe,May peace on Earth for ever reign. Brothers and sisters dear, Keep us throughout each year, Filled with true hope and joy, love and cheer. Fear not war and strife,In this blessed life, Let love enfold us all,Here upon Earth. Brothers and sisters dear, Keep us throughout each year, Filled with true hope and joy, love and cheer. Fear not war and strife,In this blessed life, Let love enfold us all,Here upon Earth. Fear not war and strife,In this blessed life, Let love enfold us all,Here upon the Earth.

Which method of viewing music should I use?

Score Exchange has two methods to display previews of music: seView which uses regular html and javascipt and the Scorch plug-in from Avid which needs to be downloaded and installed onto your computer. Both have advantages and disadvantages:

seView

seView, is the most compatible option. You should be able to view music on all modern web browsers including most mobile devices. Even if your device does not support javascript you should still be able to preview at least page one of the music.

You do not need to install any additional software to use seView.

Scorch

Scorch is a free plug-in from Avid for displaying and printing music. It can also play the music that you're seeing. As modern web browsers are updated, Scorch is no longer compatible with many browsers. Scorch has never been compatible with mobile devices and some web browsers on Mac computers.

If your web browser does not install Scorch automatically, you can click here to download and install scorch manually.
