Bass Trombone (Bb TC) part from Blaenwern (Love Divine)

W P Rowlands
4 minutes
Classical music

The much loved hymn tune, arranged here for brass band. The fourth verse is raised a semitone and is based on a harmonisation by my friend Andrew P Wilson, Director of Music at Milton Abbey School in Dorset, to whom I am grateful for permission to use the harmony.

1. Suggested dynamics are included throughout. The conductor is, however, free to make his or her own interpretation based on the words, which are included for this purpose.

2. The bass parts sometimes include a note which is a fifth above the lowest note in the basses (taking both bass parts into consideration). The intention is to produce the harmonic equivalent of a 32 organ stop. If there is not a full bass section, these quint notes are probably best omitted.

3. There are four verses. It is quite in order to miss a verse if the arrangement is being used to accompany congregational singing and the congregation has fewer verses.

Which method of viewing music should I use?

Score Exchange has two methods to display previews of music: seView which uses regular html and javascipt and the Scorch plug-in from Avid which needs to be downloaded and installed onto your computer. Both have advantages and disadvantages:

seView, is the most compatible option. You should be able to view music on all modern web browsers including most mobile devices. Even if your device does not support javascript you should still be able to preview at least page one of the music.

You do not need to install any additional software to use seView.

Scorch is a free plug-in from Avid for displaying and printing music. It can also play the music that you're seeing. As modern web browsers are updated, Scorch is no longer compatible with many browsers. Scorch has never been compatible with mobile devices and some web browsers on Mac computers.

If your web browser does not install Scorch automatically, you can click here to download and install scorch manually.
