"Legend Lost" is a gentle ballad evoking memories of the late, great Maynard Ferguson. Rather that try to pay tribute with a screaming high-note tune, I tried instead to capture an introspective mood; this makes the chart playable by less experienced musicians. There is a short Trombone solo to remind us that Maynard also performed on this instrument from time to time. The chart ends with a short quote from the 1951 Shorty Rogers composition "Maynard Ferguson", recorded by the Stan Kenton "Innovations" Orchestra.
