George Frederick Handel most famous work "The Messiah" with its "Hallelujah Chorus" is among the most popular works in Choral Music, and has become a centre piece of the Christmas Festival season. In many parts of the world it is accepted practice for the audience to stand whilst this music is performed. Tradition has it that King George II stood at this point. Royal protocol has always demanded that whenever the Monarch stands, so does everyone in the Monarch's presence. The whole audience stood up, initiating a tradition that has lasted more than 2 centuries.
