Summer contrasts is a movement from a choral symphony that I wrote in 1995. The text combines the anonymous cuckoo song "summer is y-comen in", and "to summer" by William Blake. The music was re-scored for brass quintet, organ, choir and soprano soloist and was my submission for the 2006 John Armitage Memorial call for music. Although shortlisted in that competition this piece has yet to receive a first performance. If you are planning a concert involving these forces, this piece would surely give each section a good finale.
