When night falls he enters the underworld where he does battle with the fierce snake like creature Apep . If he defeats the creature Ra is reborn and the following day will be bright and sunny, and everyone will be optimistic about its prospects. If, however, Ra is defeated, then storm clouds will blight the day and the omens will be dire.
’Goddess of truth and the law’ is the third song from the collection and it alludes to Ma’at who is the judiciary in the heavens. She provides guidance to Ra when required and sits in judgement over the entry into the netherworld.
