The "Polovtsian Dances" or "Polovetsian Dnces" are perhaps the best known selections from Alexandra P. Borodin's opera "Prince Igor".

There have been many adaptations of this dance "Gliding Dance of the Maidens" or simply "Girl's Dance". In the 1950's it was known as the song "Strangers In Paradise" from the musical "Kismet". Back in 1940 Artie Shaw, a fantastic jazz clarinetist, recorded "My Fantasy" which has a tune almost identical to this dance.

This arrangement is intended as a "1st Solo with Orchestra", for youngsters to get a feel of soloing, and, also there should be no difficulty in the string accompaniment.

It can be performed without the piano part, which coincidently be used as a condensed score.
