This concerto comprises the first installment of a cycle of the most popular works ever written. The pictorially illustrative use of virtuoso violin writing and lively orchestral effects has imbued ?The Four Seasons? with an undimming freshness and propelled it to undiminished popularity.

The outer movements of the ?Spring? concerto are cast more or less in the traditional ritronello form that was the standard for baroque solo concerti. The opening Allegro gets off to a cheerful start, and subsequent episodes include depictions of bird calls, flowing brooks, rain and thunder.

The first movement is arranged for standard string quartet with an optional bass part.
