Peachum suggests that MacHeath chooses between Lucy & Polly before his sentence is carried out. The two beg their fathers to release MacHeath, all to no avail. Lockit prepares to take MacHeath to the Old Bailey, while the prisoner, alone in his cell, finds solace in drink. (The Trumpet part has No.54 as well as No. 51, 52, & 53)
