MacHeath is to be hanged - at least, that's what the Beggar/Author has written. One of the Players points out that all opera should have a happy ending and a reprieve should be called for. Much to the author's annoyance, a reprieve is given and MacHeath is freed. The Finale is a celebration with song and dance.
