This Suite was composed for my 2010 Composition assignment at Royal Holloway University of London

It tells the story of the Moonraker's with brief interludes which are essentially sketches of some of the most beautiful places in the county of Wiltshire in England.

This county is very close to my heart as it is where I was born and spend my first 18 years.

Of note is the opening melody, a folk song that I have composed, and altered metrically. This returns at the end of the movement, in conjunction with a Jig. Also, the section "Imber, The Abandoned Village on the Plain". - A google search will quickly tell you all you need to know about Imber, a village on Salisbury Plain that was evacuated during the 2nd world war to allow the army to train in the village. The residents were promised that they would be able to return, but this was not to be the case, and to this day the village remains empty. Because its use as a training facility, the village is out of bounds to the public on remembrance day, because of this a remembrance service is held in December. I would play the last post at this service, in the open air outside the old church - the only untouched building in the village. It is one of the most poignant services I play for, knowing that I am the only person to play an instrument there on a yearly basis. It is very humbling to hear my playing echo round the hills and carry on the wind on those frosty december mornings, while everyone else is silent in thought and remembrance. In this quartet I have used the high tessitura of the cello, combined with "flautando" to represent the trumpet, and the first violin plays a solo, reminiscent of The Lark Ascending to represent the solitary birds that call out when I play The Last Post.
