The Race (such as those in the forthcoming Olympics 2012), is an energetic three movement work for two pianos, with a short main theme that repeats itself throughout the first and third movements. The pianos take it in turns to 'chase' each other by means of rapid thematic repetition. The second 'adagio' movement is a quiet, contrasting section as the stress and energy of the race is temporarily broken by a moment of calm reflection.
