When Brahms composed for the organ, he turned for inspiration to the musical style of the late Baroque period, especially the music of J.-S. Bach. His beautiful Eleven «Chorale Preludes op. 122 (posthume)" are a basic repertoire works for every organist where the composer emulated late Baroque with considerable success. Here is an arrangement for string quartet of the sdecond Prelude, a deeply impressive variation on the famous « Herzliebster Jesu, was hast du verbrochen » (previously - and quite often - appearing in Bachs organ works): the main orned melodic line is played by the Bb Trumpet.
