A verse-anthem for SSAT soli, SAATB chorus and organ by the early-17th-century English composer John Holmes (d.1629), reconstructed from the organ score by Ian Payne. It was composed for liturgical use, probably in the first decade of the 17th century while he was organist of Winchester Cathedral, though the exact year is unknown. The text is uncertain, but (but to judge from the brief musical incipit, 'we praise thee Lord') was very probably from the metrical Te Deum, which fits Holmes's attractive music very well indeed.
