Trumpet in B^b 3 from O Holy Night
Please note that this score is formatted for 8.5 x 14 (legal size) paper.
This Arrangement of O Holy Night was composed by Ken Applegate for the Orange County Wind Symphony’s 2010 Holiday Concert. The piece was requested by Maestro Anthony Parnther, Principle Conductor of the ensemble, and the Solo was performed by world-renowned Baritone Bradley Baker.
The piece begins very intimately, with the woodwinds and horns supporting the soloist. After a full statement of the hymns thematic material, a short transition builds the ensemble into a more heroic sound to finish out the piece.
The most important thing, when performing this piece, is to not let the energy die in the later sections. There has been a rhythmic rewrite to the timpani and several woodwind parts that will help push it forward a bit better, but attention does still need to be paid to not drag things out.
It’s truly a wonderful arrangement and I hope it serves any band well who performs it. If you have an instrumentalist who you would like to feature on this piece, rather than a Vocalist, please send me a message letting me know which instrument you need and I will do my best to come up with something as quickly as possible.
