As of the fall of 2011, only this finale of a projected multi-movement work is complete. I wrote it as the recessional for my son’s wedding, and it received its premiere performance on that occasion (Chicago, 1 October, 2011). Since my son is a horn player (then a graduate student at the Roosevelt University Conservatory), I gave the horn a prominent role.
This movement was written with professional players in mind, as the remaining movements will be. Rapid runs and arpeggiated patterns, in some cases across register breaks, along with the need for clean, precise articulation, are together the basis of my classification of the work as difficult.
