The ‘Three Very Serious Songs’ are rather idiosyncratic, deeply personal works: I am not sure that anyone other than myself would ever want to perform them. Nonetheless I have posted them here, in part as an invitation to performers to commission works from me (see my profile on this site).
The three songs share some common features: they are loosely based on a jazz ballad format, they feature extensive elaboration or re-harmonisation of the underlying chord sequence; the piano parts feature jazz style solos are disproportionately difficult relative to the vocals.
