Mezzo-soprano part from Night Soliloquy

Based on an original poem

The words of the poem came to me one morning while waking up. I had gone to bed pretty depressed over some things that are happening in my life at the moment and the words just started coming to me. Thankfully, I had my iPhone in hand so I opened up the Notepad and typed away.

I knew the words could work very well with flute and voice so that’s how this piece came about! I hope you enjoy it!

It should be noted that some musically-acceptable time may be taken, especially in the flute part, during the more soloistic passages.

The words of the poem are:

Can the moon rise when tears cover her eyes?

Can the crickets chirp when all they hear are sobs?

Can the stars still twinkle when hope slips away?

Can the nightingale still sing when the heart sighs?

Can the river still trickle when the soul turns cold?

Will the night end when love comes again?

Can the dark see light where loneliness resides?

Night comes.

Which method of viewing music should I use?

Score Exchange has two methods to display previews of music: seView which uses regular html and javascipt and the Scorch plug-in from Avid which needs to be downloaded and installed onto your computer. Both have advantages and disadvantages:

seView, is the most compatible option. You should be able to view music on all modern web browsers including most mobile devices. Even if your device does not support javascript you should still be able to preview at least page one of the music.

You do not need to install any additional software to use seView.

Scorch is a free plug-in from Avid for displaying and printing music. It can also play the music that you're seeing. As modern web browsers are updated, Scorch is no longer compatible with many browsers. Scorch has never been compatible with mobile devices and some web browsers on Mac computers.

If your web browser does not install Scorch automatically, you can click here to download and install scorch manually.
