Henry Purcell wrote a suite of incidental music for the 1676 play Abdelazer (or "The Moor’s Revenge"). The rondeau was made famous by Benjamin Britten, who used it as the theme for his set of variations, ’The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra’.
