Gaetano Pugnani is yet another in the long list of violinist composers of the mid-18th century who is little known today; yet this virtuoso Italian writes with a melodic charm and grace that will delight players and audience alike. Here is an arrangement for flutes of the third of his Opus 7 Sonatas for violin and figured bass. Flute 1 follows the violin part, by and large; the bass flute, again, has most of the bass line. The inner two parts are my own additions. Although it has its moments of difficulty, it is not too challenging, and the Adagio would suit less ambitious plyers very well. I hope you enjoy it.
