Happy Spring Evening originally had the Flute and Drum at Sunset, Pipa Play in Xunyang, Moonlight Night in Xunyang or Xunyang Chant. Xunyang is the ancient name of the present Jiujiang in Jiangxi. Although it now impossible to ascertain the date of the piece, it certainly enjoyed wide popularity before 1875.It is a characteristic example of pipa music, smooth and graceful in melody, depicting the natural beauty of the lakes and mountain at sunset. Fishermen sing to the accompaniment of the flute and drum, as the fishing-boats return at moonrise. The piece was arranged in the 1920s for an ensemble of traditional Chinese instrument under the title Happy Spring Evening. It is regarded as an essential item in traditional repertoire.

Which method of viewing music should I use?
