"I don’t know why My bitter mind With a wing restless and mad flies over the sea. All that is dear to me, With a wing of dread My love broods on it skimming the waters. Why, why?
Seagull soaring mornfully My thinking follows the wave, Swung to and fro by all the winds of the sky, And on the slant when the tide obliques, Seagull soaring mournfully.
Intoxicated with sunlight And liberty, An instinct guides it through this immensity. The summer breeze On the bright red waters Softly carries it in a lukewarm somnolence.
Sometimes so sadly it shreaks That it alarms in the distance the pilote, Then to the wind’s mercy surrenders and hangs And dives, and the wing all bruised Flies again, and then so sadly shreaks!
